The drum-type brake mechanism

On the front-wheel models Audi 80 which have been let out till October of 92 (not equipped АБС), on the back bridge there are drum-type brake mechanisms. On this version of the brake mechanism two brake pads nestle on an internal surface of a drum the piston of the brake cylinder (it is located between the top ends brake pads). Thanks to an arrangement brake pads in applied in Audi 80 drum-type brake mechanism (brake mechanism Simplex – one brake cylinder with two pistons) one of two brake pads operates in the self-amplifying image. It means that this brake колодка because of wheel rotation nestles on a brake drum in certain limits spontaneously that reduces effort to pedals. In Audi 80 (at advance) operates spontaneously forward brake колодка. On a slang of experts it is called as primary pads or active brake pads. Back is called according to secondary pads or as passive brake pads.

The self-regulated drum-type brake mechanism

Drum-type brake mechanisms should not be regulated. This problem has incurred, in отличае from disk brake mechanisms, the adjusting mechanics. With increasing deterioration of a frictional covering rods of cylinders between brake колодками are put forward, that pads again could nestle on a drum. It is provided with a wedge with a spring drive which in process of deterioration pads puts forward rods.
