Power shafts

That at movement of the car and management of it you did not feel any influences of change of a mode of movement on management, hinges of power shafts should transfer the moment absolutely in regular intervals in all positions of shock-absorbers and a steering column.

It is a problem of the hinges located on the ends of power shafts. In a series of models Audi 80 we deal with two various types of hinges:

  • From outside wheels and transmissions stand so-called гомокинетические hinges (hinges of equal angular speeds – SHRUS). Their action is based on six spheres, which at hinge bending движутся in specially ground paths качения. Thus, absolutely uniform transfer of the moment is provided at any, admissible in the car, a power shaft angle of rotation. Hinges of equal angular speeds stand on all cars with a mechanical transmission with 4 and 5-cylinder engines, and also on all all-wheel drive models (ahead and behind). On models with АКП and models with the 6-cylinder engine they stand as external hinges.
  • From outside transmissions – that is as internal hinges – on cars with АКП and cars with the 6-cylinder engine (front-wheel) are established so-called hinges of equal angular speeds of "Tripod". Instead of six spheres this hinge is supplied by three rollers on needle bearings. Advantage of this design: insignificant transfer of fluctuations from a drive to a body.
